Description: Orange – yellow coluor
Orgin: Curcumin is isolated from the roots and stem of Yellowroot (Curcuma longa lub Curcumadomestica)
Application: Pigment, which imparts the yellow colour for food.
Daily intake: up to 1 mg/kg body weight for curcumin and up to 0.3 mg/kg for turmeric – according to EFSA (European Food Safety Authority)
Curiosities:
- Turmeric is the crude extract. Curcumin is the purified compound, which imparts the yellow colour to curry (spice)
- according to research may slow the progress of cancer,
- it is trying to use it as a drug for preventing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
- it is not very soluble in water
